Day 1:
Arrive Paro -ThimphuThe flight to Paro crosses the Himalayan Mountains, affording spectacular views of the awesome peaks, including the sacred Jumolhari and Jichu Drake peaks in Bhutan. On arrival you will be greeted by the guide and escort you to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu. |
Day 2:
ThimphuAfter breakfast, you will visit Memorial Chorten (built in memory of the third King of Bhutan who reigned from 1952-1972), Nunnery temple, National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Folk Heritage Museum and the School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the painting school). After relaxing lunch, you will visit traditional paper factory and Kuenselphodrang overlooking Thimphu valley and where giant Buddha statue is under construction. 169 feet statue is reputed to be the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world. You DRAGON KINGDOM TOUR – BHUTAN will then visit the majestic Tashichhodzong, the seat of the national government. In the evening you can explore Thimphu city and absorb the lifestyle of the people. Day 3:
Thimphu-ParoToday you will drive back to Paro. Sightseeing in Paro includes the Dungtse Lhakhang, National Museum and Rinpung Dzong meaning “fortress of the heap of jewels". In the afternoon, you will visit Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest and most sacred temple in the country. Later in the evening, you can stroll through Paro town. Walking through the market and meeting with the people will be an enjoyable experience. Overnight at hotel in Paro. |
Day 4:
Chelela & Kila Goenpa Nunnery HikeFollowing breakfast you will drive to Chelela Pass (3810m) the highest point of motorable road in the country. The walk begins among the thick fluttering prayer flags. To get blessed and gain merit, you can also fix your prayer flags if you have bought them from the town. As you continue the hike steadily along the ridge, you will be awestricken by the views of Paro valley on right and Haa valley on left. The thick rhododendron bush and wild flowers adorn the mountain slope making your walk more rewarding. The highest ridge, Kungkarpo stands at about 4600 meters, the spot for sky burial. From here the trail descends abruptly through opened natural meadow and then enters thick wood of silver fir forest and broadleaved rhododendrons trees finally coming out above the Kila Goenpa Nunnery. Visit the temple, pray and interact with nuns before you drive back to Paro. Overnight at hotel in Paro. |
Day 5:
Hike to Tiger’s Nest MonasteryToday you will hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, which is Bhutan's most famous monastery situated at 3180 meters. Guru Rinpoche (spiritual master) is said to have flown on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave where Taktsang Monastery now stands. Lunch will be served in the Cafeteria Restaurant, located about halfway up on the mountain. The monastery is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. Explore the monastery, and if you wish, you can sit for a short meditation before you hike down to the valley floor. This is a fantastic conclusion to your stay in Bhutan!
